Sarah McIntyre was born in Seattle. She studied Russian literature and art history at Bryn Mawr College, then earned a distinction while doing her master's degree in Illustration at Camberwell College of the Arts in London. She brings her love of travel and adventure to her work, and loves the thrill of being a perpetual tourist in London, where she has lived since 1999. She dreams about living on a boat, but can't figure out where she would store her books. Instead, she potters around riverside London on her bicycle and buys more books, much to her husband's dismay. He worries that the bookcases will grow so heavy that they fall through the floorboards and squash the elderly Portuguese couple who live downstairs. Sarah frequently pledges not to buy more books because her neighbours are kind people, who bring her homemade pastries and sometimes panettone in shiny big wrapping paper at Christmas.
